The reimagining of the Catherine Dickson Hofman Library, a regional branch for the North Warren County area, has nearly doubled its size to better serve the community’s growing needs. The former layout of this single-story, pre-engineered metal building, originally designed as office space, was inefficient for its use. The re-design incorporates a new layout for improved circulation, with logical adjacencies that enhance new programmatic functionality at double-height clerestory areas delineating spaces for adults, teens and children. The renovations addressed ADA accessibility and code compliance upgrades, replacement of building systems with high-efficiency mechanical equipment and controls, building envelope repairs to improve thermal comfort and site improvements to create safer, more efficient vehicular and pedestrian circulation. The library now features updated spaces, including a front circulation desk, a fireside reading area, study zones for adults and young adults, and a dedicated children’s area. New additions like a maker space and recording studio enhance offerings, while community spaces include meeting rooms and a kitchenette-equipped community room.
