The Albee Square Campus occupies the first six floors of a new 34-story residential tower — the tallest mixed-used building in Brooklyn - as part of a public-private partnership.
Working closely with NYC SCA, a development partner and construction manager, DIG designed the interior fit out of six floors of new 34-story mixed-use building for a new pre-K-5 public elementary school for approximately 375 students under a citywide initiative to alleviate overcrowding.
Located at One Willoughby Square, The Albee Square Campus occupies the first six floors of a new 34-story mixed-use building branded as 1WSQ. The 540-foot-high office tower is the first new building of its kind to take shape in Downtown Brooklyn since 2004.
The Albee Square Campus occupies approximately 80,000 SF and includes a library, music room, convertible assembly and gym space, cafeteria, project room, medical suite, playground and classrooms organized by grade-specific floors. A new dedicated entry on the ground level is adorned with art as part of NYC's Public Art for Public Schools program.
Thanks to the incorporation of sustainable design elements, the school has earned NYC Green Schools Guide Certification.
The Albee Square Campus is the first project completed in partnership with NYC SCA. Two others are currently in design.
